Founder’s Desk

During the early years of life, I used to get extremely disturbed when I saw elders looking down on children of beggars, drivers, security guards and others not as fortunate as us. Those kids were around the same age as me, had similar aspirations and were carefree in spirit. What was their fault? Just that they were born into underprivileged families?

What upset me even more was that it was the so-called educated and elite around me who indulged in such pathetic acts. The purpose of education, in my opinion, was and is to broaden our horizons and not to narrow our vision. Needless to say, I lost all respect for such people who differentiated between innocent children on the basis of their social status. My heart broke every time I witnessed the pains such children went thorough due to ostracism by society.

Hence, I resolved to make a difference to a few lives at least when I would get the means to do so. The sentiments stayed with me as years passed by and finally culminated into the inception of Gunjan Foundation.

Shortage of capital was always an obstacle. With the help of a few good Samaritans, we organized a seminar based on them of mind pollution which was a huge success. There was no looking back after that. Help poured in from all directions and in different forms to keep the good work going. It took us three to four years to get things on track. We wanted to open a Model underprivileged school and were disparately looking for land. The DLF foundation was kind enough to give us a building on lease to run the school. We started the Swapna Sarthak School in April, 2010 with 60 Students and now About 210 students are enrolled in the morning school, running Nursery through class V.
